Briar Mill Tour - Phase Two

After many months of stabilizing in a low light but highly
moist environment, the burls are taken to the cutting room.
The first thing to notice is that the blade is totally open. There
are no safety features. First time visitors to the cutting rooms
always find this an uncomfortable experience. The cutters work
close and fast with the spinning blade, and the noise is deafening.
The experience of the cutter is all important as he must recognize
those parts of the burl which will yield the large extra-extra
plateaux blocks in such demand. A premier cutter
can maximixe the yield of the burls, while an inexperienced one
can reduce the finest of burls to a dozen basket pipes!
